While the band released their Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. album in 1996 (which is considered a demo by the band), Slipknot didn’t really come into their own until the release of their 1999 self-titled debut album. Of course, that record needs very little discussion considering it’s the one that launched the now legendary band into popularity, but if you thought that MFKR was the band’s first demo, you’d have been thought correct – at least until now.
While it’s been taken down multiple times in the last couple days, a 1995 demo – which obvious does not contain Corey Taylor on vocals – has surfaced. The demo also includes an early version of “Tattered And Torn”. The video description notes this about the release, stating:
The 1995 Demo is a four-track demo recorded in 1995 and Slipknot’s first musical output. Despite being the band’s first demo, the quality of the songs is surprisingly high. Tracks 1 and 3 were included on the band’s debut album Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. with little to no changes. Track 4 was supposed to be included on the album as well, but was scrapped shortly before recording ended. The band members each drew their own cover art for this demo. Only Joey Jordison’s has surfaced so far.
Pretty neat stuff. Of course, this is a demo, so it’s extremely raw, but it’s an interesting listen nonetheless.
