Linkin Park is a popular band. Shocking, I know. Their first two albums, Hybrid Theory and Meteora, were two of the biggest-selling albums in any capacity of the new millennium, and they remain that way today – usually selling a few thousand copies (or more) a week. Sometimes much more, if there’s some sort of anniversary or vinyl reissue or something like that.
Anyway, as 2021 comes to a close (shocking, I know), Billboard has published their year-end charts in all sorts of genres of music. Obviously rock and metal are included in those, and only a handful of records managed to sell more copies this year than Hybrid Theory – and only a few more than Meteora, too.
The albums were ranked #6 and #16, respectively, in Billboard’s year-end charts in the Hard Rock Albums category. In fact, almost the entire top 50 reads as a list of hard rock and metal legends – Metallica, AC/DC, and Queen, to name but a few. Interestingly, Ice Nine Kills and Spiritbox are also on the list, which is pretty impressive in a list dominated by huge names. Also on the list? New albums from Chevelle and Gojira, too.
.@linkinpark's #HybridTheory was the 6th best-selling hard rock album of 2021 in the United States, with around 250,000 units.
