After their video for “In The End” became one of just a handful of music videos on Youtube to reach the staggering one billion stream mark, legendary rock band Linkin Park have reached a new milestone with their debut album, Hybrid Theory. While we already know the album is one of the top 50 best selling albums (worldwide) of all time, that doesn’t make their newest accolade any less memorable.
The RIAA, as of September 11th, certified Hybrid Theory as twelve times Platinum in the USA. That’s over 12 million copies in the USA alone, and the album’s worldwide total is at 27 million sold at the time of this writing. It wouldn’t be a big surprise to see that number climb later this year, with the October release of their Hybrid Theory 20th anniversary box set seeing renewed interest in the album. Of course, the record doesn’t need it – with the estimated 331 million people living in the USA right now, a sizable portion have owned the album at one point.
US Certifications (@RIAA): @linkinpark, Hybrid Theory 12x Platinum (12,000,000).
