Kurt Travis launches Big Wave Ind. to handle merch production for indie bands

Kurt Travis, a longtime post-hardcore savant in bands such as Dance Gavin Dance/A Lot Like Birds and founder of Esque Records, has launched a new venture in Big Wave Industries.

Coinciding with the news that Adventurer will be releasing a new album, the merch drop for the pre-order is the first offering from Big Wave Ind. We were thrilled to premiere the band’s previous single, “Vicious Circles”, here at New Fury, with an interview. The new single, “Voices Over Infinite Distance”, was accompanied by a stellar one-take music video you can watch below.

This looks to be the first of many merch drops courtesy of Big Wave Ind. Featuring unique vinyl variants, cassettes, and wall flags, the spread covers all the bases and is an encouraging start.

The funny side to this piece of news took place on Facebook, where Travis sponsored this announcement to land in more news feeds. It seems he didn’t refine his target audience enough, and stirred up some Facebook users that weren’t a fan of seeing the ad in their feed, including one Jerry Hughes:

Travis took the tirade in stride and added a discount code to the site; JERRYHUGHES nets you a percentage off your order on Big Wave Ind. Even better, the interaction was so enthusing that Travis has made a limited-edition skate deck with Hughes’ profile picture:
