It can be argued that alternative/nu-metal veterans Korn are more relevant and important now than they were even in their late-90’s heyday. Maybe it’s the fact that 2016’s The Serenity Of Suffering was the band’s best album in over a decade, cementing themselves as a band who, though they lost their way for a string of albums, are still vitally important in the grand scheme of things. The band, who are generally credited for the invention and rise of nu-metal with their 1994 self-titled debut (still one of the most unsettling albums of the decade) are also a clear influence on many of today’s most popular metal bands.
The same can be said for Asking Alexandria. While the band has as many critics as they do fans, they’ve been one of the bigger metalcore bands around for a while as well. The band’s upcoming 5th album (which is reportedly complete, according to Danny Worsnop), may possibly have a guest spot or two on it – with a recent photo of the band and Jonathan Davis in the studio fueling speculation that Jonathan could be on it. Is it possible? Sure. We do know they’re collaborating in some fashion, so I suppose we’ll have to see what happens. It’s bands like Korn that have maintained their core sound while also working with younger bands (see: Motionless In White, and Papa Roach touting Sylar as the “future”), so it’s always nice to see the established working with newer acts.
