As of the time of this writing, Texas is embroiled (lol) in a damaging, unbearable heat wave that’s basically affecting the whole state. Houston, in particular, has heat indexes reaching 116 degrees in part, scary stuff for even the most hardened of people that live in the South.
It also looks like something else is heating up for fans of metalcore band Texas In July, too. When they first started out, Texas In July were one of the more notable bands in the scene because of both their precocious talent and their young age. While it took the band a little while to realize their potential (they were often cast off as an August Burns Red clone), Texas In July really started to find their footing with their (apparent) final two albums – a 2012 self-titled effort, and 2014’s Bloodwork. The latter saw vocalist JT Cavey stepping up to the plate, and while the band sadly broke up after its release a short time later, they really left on a high note. Bloodwork was the culmination of everything Texas In July had been working toward, with JT Cavey’s fresh vocal abilities and vastly improved songwriting managing to stand out even in a genre like metalcore.
Recently, however, the wheels have been turning. While Texas In July have reunited for shows recently, it was unclear if they’d be making music again, or if it was a more sporadic thing due to consumer demand (and their own interest, of course). After all, Cavey’s the vocalist of Erra, and other members of TIJ are in other projects as well. Now, however, it appears new music is coming. It’s pretty simple – the band changed their profile picture and their cover photo, with the latter also bearing the words “False Divinity”. It’ll be pretty interesting to hear what the new music sounds like, in any case. After all, much can change in almost a decade of not releasing music, but considering that it seemed like Texas In July were just hitting their stride, the sky is the limit. Also, enjoy the pun.
