Dredg is the kind of chameleonic band that can fit in almost any scene, let’s be real here. From their 1998 debut full-length Leitmotif, the experimental // alt-rock band made a name for themselves with difficult to categorize music, concept albums, and tours with everyone from nu-metal’s biggest bands to Glassjaw. Then came albums like El Cielo and 2005’s Catch Without Arms, and as long as you forget 2011’s Chuckles And Mr. Squeezy, you have a band with a great, great discography, and armed with one of the most gifted vocalists in Gavin Hayes.
Of course, we know the band hasn’t released a record since 2011, and that’s an almost Tool-esque length between albums. There is hope, though, as bassist Drew Roulette revealed on the Vulgar Display Of Podcast recently.
As ThePRP helpfully transcribed, it appears Dredg will be entering the studio at the end of the year, with two albums worth of material to work from.
“We’ve been obviously writing for the last five-plus years, and we get together every week to do that. It’s been awesome, but it’s getting to the point where we just have too many songs. It’s like, every time we get in there we wanna write something new, you know? But actually working on the songs is actually work, right? None of us wanna work. We just wanna get in there and jam because it sounds good and it’s easy.”
“So you know, working on that. We’re supposed to do an international tour next year but we kinda had to postpone that. We made the decision recently, just because we don’t want it to get in the way of the record. Which is good news for me because that’s what I’m most interested in. I’m thinking we’ll write until the end of the year and maybe get in the studio this winter, or maybe early next year.”
Definitely something good to hope for here, for sure.
