I stumbled across Decisions about a year ago when they were playing with Victory Records band A Hero A Fake. Shortly there after they played a show a held for Introduce Yourself Zine. Immediately I was blown away by their stage presence, professionalism and musicianship. The band has gone through some change but are determined to get right back on track. I recently talked to my good friend Trevor Cregan (Vocals) about the bands foundation, changes and what the future holds for them.

The Interview:

Please introduce yourself and what you do in Decisions?

My name is Trevor Cregan and I do vocals and write lyrics.

How did the band get started?

Originally we were writing music under a different name and were not happy with the style or the name. So in January of 2011 we changed the name to Decisions and started writing under that moniker.

Recently you had some member changes after releasing a music video and a highly anticipated EP soon to be released, can you tell us more about what happened?

I wish there were some sweet juicy details, but they just weren’t happy anymore and that’s understandable. There was just a lot of meaningless arguing before the departure. As far as the EP goes, we have decided to change the name from The Storyteller, to a soon to be announced name. We are looking to release the EP in October/ November with a lot of shows to support the release! A new music video will also be shot for the title track of the new EP.

As for the new lineup can you give us some more details and how your sound is changing because of it?

Our new guitarist is adding a very different style, it’ll be less of the chuggy breakdown oriented music and more melodic/emotional. Also we’re adding a lot of really pretty guitar parts, overall it’s gonna be heavier but pretty, with hints at an Architects sound.

If you could sign with any label who and why?

For me personally, I’ve always wanted to be on: Epitaph, Equal Vision or Deathwish. All of them would be a dream come true.

What was your gateway bands to the music you listen to today and how have they influenced you?

Bands like Converge/ Poison The Well/ and Zao are the gateway bands that got me into heavy music, thanks to my older brother Trey. I draw a lot of influence from Jacob Bannon (Converge) in lyrical style, stage presence, and the way I do the vocals. I even have a Converge tattoo and plan on more inspired by them.

If you could tour with any bands who and why?

Bless The Fall, it would be fun to prank each other. The Color Morale, they all seem like really cool down to earth dudes. Architects, they are a big influence for us so as you could imagine it would be huge for us. Also Like Moths To Flames, we jam them so much that it’s not even funny.

Do you believe the FL scene is dead?

I wouldn’t say it’s dead because we have a lot of amazing friends in bands from all over the state (Jacksonville- Tampa- Miami), but it has definitely seen its better days. There are a lot of really amazing bands that will soon become household names coming out of Florida.

Out of all the shows you have played which one stands out above the rest and why?

That’s a really tough one because each show has something awesome we contribute from it. But when we played with Evergreen Terrace (Rise Records) and a bunch of really rad locals including Stealing Spines and He The Creator, just because everyone was so inviting and everyone was having an amazing time. Plus I’ve been listening to Evergreen for many many years!

In closing is there anything you would like to add?

Just to tell people to always chase and follow their dreams no matter the cost or consequence. Life will knock you down time and time again if you let it. Nothing worth having comes easy. And thank you Tim and the rest of the RATA staff for always having my band and I’s back. And thank you to all of our fans and friends for sticking with us through this tumultuous time! We love and appreciate everything you all have done for us!
