Please introduce yourself and your company!
My name is Dan Moore, and I am the Owner/Operator of DRM Artist Development, an artist management company looking at developing acts into self-sustaining entities.
What bands are currently on DRM’s roster?
Currently we officially have 4 acts. The first act is Eye 4 An Eye (www.facebook.com/eyeforaneyepa) , a post-hardcore band that we approached in December. The second actually came to us; they are known as The Last Remark (www.facebook.com/thelastremark) and are a heavy metal band. They have definitely made an impression on a primarily metalcore scene. The third and fourth acts were picked up at the same time. They are Armory Infirmary (www.facebook.com/ArmoryInfirmary) and Forgetting Last Friday (www.facebook.com/ForgettingLastFriday69). Forgetting Last Friday is our first west coast act.
DRM manages many up and coming artists; what would you say is your main goal when working with an artist? Is it always just to get them more popular, or are there other goals as well?
Aside from helping promote our artists, we work to getting our artists tour ready through strategic planning. We want our artists to be smart about everything they do, whether it’s what songs to record or where their tour should go to.
Are you currently on the hunt for other bands to add to the list? If so, what qualifications must a band meet to be considered to be a part of DRM?
We are always accepting submissions from artists and will stay in contact with them until we are ready to take them on. Qualifications to be part of DRM include having a professional quality recording, a very high work ethic, and willingness to take criticism and change. That last one is the most important; we have years of experience and simply want to share with our artists what we’ve seen work over the years. Also it’s kind of a waste if you have a manager that you never listen to.
What made you want to start DRM?
For lack of a better word; there are a lot of shitty managers out there. We are legitimate, we’re here to help bands, not take money from them. We want bands to have some industry knowledge to help them along their paths to success.
What has been your biggest success thus far, in your opinion?
Our biggest success would have to be when we entered the realm of show promotions. We were able to give our bands the shows they dreamed of along with making some awesome friends along the way and some potential new acts!
What are your goals for the future?
Our goals are to move our current bands to labels and booking agencies and to also look to taking on new acts to develop. This winter we plan on booking our bands tours ourselves while also planning some releases. In terms of show promotions we have some nice tours coming through the area in which we can’t speak of yet, but will be revealed in time.
One thing people always want to know about when talking about bands is touring; you have quite a few bands on your roster! Which of them will be hitting the road in the near future?
The Last Remark and Eye 4 An Eye will be sharing a van on a weeklong tour this winter. Armory Infirmary will also be planning some dates while Forgetting Last Friday is still developing their local market in California.
A lot of your bands have new projects coming out soon! Can you give us any info?
Well Eye 4 An Eye has released their debut EP on iTunes. The Last Remark has been in the studio for a single to be released this fall. Armory Infirmary will also be recording some songs with their new line-up to be released in Fall/Winter. Forgetting Last Friday currently has a demo up for FREE download so get on that!
Thanks for talking to Rise Above the Anchor, Dan! It was great getting the inside scoop on DRM!
Thank you guys! Myself and DRM Artist Development really appreciate the work you do!
