Formed in 2019, Illicit Thoughts was founded in the Payson, Utah area. The Utah-based group released their debut self-titled EP in 2020 that acted as their foray into the metal scene. Illicit Thoughts is an up and coming metalcore band that pilots themselves with a memorizing ambient atmosphere that evolves and blends with the overall instrumentation in a well implemented manner. Illicit Thoughts name was inspired from the mental health battles the members have experienced throughout their lives. Illicit Thoughts consists of Dallon “Illicit” Relph, Eli Potter, Oakley Sparrow and Michael Denis. The latest single released by the group goes by the name of “Dolore” and the song is more on the heavier side for the group, compared to their soft-spoken and impactful song “Hollow”. Dolore was lyrically written by Dallon Illicit touching on the subject of losing his mom to suicide It touches on the struggles of watching his mom being tortured by the thoughts in her head, which can have an unspeakable toll as it did Dallon. Everday and drove him to a fear of losing his mom which eventually became a reality he never imagined. This event plays a big role on the album and the mental health awareness we want to bring to the world. Illicit Thoughts is currently preparing their debut full length album, and as of right now the group has released 4 singles taken from the upcoming album “My Coffin” such as “Dolore”, “Hollow”, “Borderlines”, and “My Coffin”. Illicit Thoughts are off to a strong start with these released singles, each one has its own flavor and sound that makes it stick out from the band’s older work, all while maintaining the core sound and familiarity throughout their music. While there is always room for improvements especially early on, Illicit Thoughts have had a strong, impressive start in terms of quality and songwriting abilities. We’re stoked for more!
