While the band gained their second RIAA-certified Gold record earlier this month, unfortunate news has struck the Cali metalcore icons. Founding vocalist Alex Varkatzas has officially left the band, after Lambgoat shared the news last month. However, there was no formal announcement until today.
Alex, the founding vocalist of the band, experienced huge success with Atreyu over the last twenty years as a band. Two Gold records, countless tours with some of rock and metal’s biggest bands, and being one of the faces of one of metalcore’s biggest commercially successful acts is nothing to sneeze at. His vocals will certainly be missed, though, and while it’s unclear if he’ll be replaced at all, it’s possible vocal duties will fall solely to drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller. That is, of course, conjecture.
