It has been a long and anxious wait for the death metal experts Fallujah to release new music off their new album The Flesh Prevails, and I can proudly say that the wait is over. You can check out their new song, “Sapphire” here and see what I have to say about it after the jump.
The Flesh Prevails is probably the most highly anticipated death metal album coming out this year, and it is my most anticipated album to come out this year altogether. This album is a follow-up to their 2011 release The Harvest Wombs and their 2013 EP Nomadic. I personally thought Nomadic was a huge step forward for Fallujah, and I’m happy to see them expand on the atmospheric death metal sound they created with that release.
Sapphire proves that point with the introduction consisting of ambient keyboards and guitar, which is beautifully broken by the first guitar riff of the song. This song shows that they can create atmospheres that engulf the listener that they experimented with on Nomadic while keeping with their death metal nature that was seen more on The Harvest Wombs. Overall, this song shows a huge advancement in their music which is not only atmospheric and ambient, but more progressive and melodic as well. The guitars go from extremely heavy riffs to breathtaking solos, the drums go from fast rhythms with plenty of double bass and crazy fills to soft but complex beats, and the vocals go from brutal screams with backing vocals to pack a punch to ambient clean vocals.
The Flesh Prevails comes out July 22nd through Unique Leader Records, and you can get their pre-order bundles here. Sapphire is a great example of where Fallujah’s sound is headed, and it is definitely in the right direction. Be sure to keep an eye out for this album that will change the game of death metal later this year. The best part? They’re playing Summer Slaughter all summer long.
