Erra’s progressive metalcore shines on new song, “Snowblood”

Erra is one of progressive metalcore’s brightest stars, continuing to shine where many of their peers fall away. The release of last year’s single “Eye Of God” showcased an updated and upgraded Erra sound, with signature melodies and incisive guitar riffs weaving in and out of each other with ease. Now, with a new single in “Snowblood” out (and their signing to UNFD), how does it stack up to their previous work? Quite well. Give “Snowblood” a spin below.

About the new song, vocalist and guitarist Jesse Cash adds, “The Snowblood instrumental had a dark intensity to it, so the only lyrics that seemed to fit contextually ended up being some of the darkest we’ve ever written. We wanted to paint a picture of a person’s deteriorating mental health by creating imagery akin to what you’d see in a horror movie. Instrumentally and lyrically, all the key elements of where we’re heading as a band on our new material are there.”

The band’s previous records, especially 2013’s Augment and their 2011 debut Impulse, helped get the then-fledgling band plenty of early support. But it was 2016’s Drift that helped launch Erra into the upper echelon of bands in the progressive metalcore genre.
