Music. Gaming. Nostalgia. Culture.

Elon Musk actually thought that attacking Trent Reznor on Twitter was a productive use of his time

When the mastermind of one of the world’s biggest industrial bands of the last 30+ years thinks it’s time to leave your platform, you’re doing it all wrong. Imagine spending billions of dollars to take over a social media platform as your latest vanity project, then watching it all go up in flames as you proceed to reinstate some of the world’s biggest trolls and hatemongers. Brilliant fucking plan, Elon Musk. Apparently watching your self-driving Teslas go up in literal flames isn’t enough either – you had to go and pick a fight with Trent fucking Reznor. *facepalm*

Here’s the long and the short of the story. Reznor recently revealed that he’d be leaving Twitter, thanks to the toxicity that’s escalated since Elon commandeered the social media platform. Elon then called Reznor a “crybaby” for doing so.

“I’m about to depart. We don’t need the arrogance of the billionaire class to feel like they can just come in and solve everything. Even without him involved, I just find that it has become such a toxic environment. For my mental health, I need to tune out. I don’t feel good being there anymore.”

Thankfully, most sane people came out to defend Reznor, who’s always had these anti-authoritarian stances. Apparently that Elon guy never listened to “Head Like A Hole”.

To put it bluntly, trying to bully someone like Trent Reznor is about the most foolish thing you can do. This is the same guy who’s done the following…

*Helped establish industrial music as a commercially viable genre
*Overcame heroin addiction and continued to write some of the most influential music of our time
*Literally told his fans to “steal” his music in Australia, and encouraged fans to remix 2008’s The Slip in any way they saw fit
*Academy Awards for film scores AND multiple Grammy Awards. Versatile.
*Woodstock ’94. If you know, you know.
*Sold millions of albums even as he struggled with depression and writer’s block
*Continues to call out the predatory nature of the music industry at every turn
*Has a side project with his wife + Rob Sheridan, How To Destroy Angels
*Consistently reinvents himself at every turn
*Musicians from every corner of the scene publicly revere him
*Produced a fucking HALSEY record
*A multi-instrumentalist who won a Grammy with the lyric “fist fuck”
*Wants to fuck you like an animal, but also wants to get closer to God

Perhaps attacking and name-calling Reznor for not wanting to be part of your toxic platform isn’t the most prescient move, Musk.
