A Quiet Place in the mountains. Elevation is the first of our micro movie reviews here. Just a shorter more condensed review and thoughts on a film.
Elevation follows a world where killer monsters have come up from underground and wiped out most of the population except for those hiding above the 8,000 feet mark. Yes, 8000 feet, not a foot less as the monsters seemingly have some invisible barrier that stops them from even inching past that. We follow more so a single father whose son needs oxygen to sleep correct as he and two women from their camp travel down into the monster infested area in search of more oxygen for his child.
From here we get your standard monster sci fi action set pieces which are done well. The monsters look good at times but remind me very much of something from the Horizon game series. We just never get any explanations here really and when the twists happen it just makes everything even dumber.
Mainly though the film suffers from dreadful dialog. Nothing seems natural here really and most of the time it cliche characters muttering out something with the emotional range of cardboard. Not even the usually great Anthony Mackie and Morena Baccarin can do their best to save this.
Its not an awful watch overall. The action saves it and keeps the pacing going but it never feels like more than a lower budget film you’d randomly find streaming, which it wasn’t, this was a major theatrical release.
