ECW Hostile City Showdown 1996 (Wrestling Review)

ECW

Hostile City Showdown

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

April 20th, 1996

Singles Match
Super Nova vs. El Puerto Ricano

Two nobodies in the match. A few decent moves then 911 runs in and just ultimately destroys them both. Lame finish but 911 just wrecking them was awesome.

Tag Team Match
The Dudley Boyz (Buh Buh Ray Dudley & D-Von Dudley) (w/Big Dick Dudley & Sign Guy Dudley) vs. The Pitbulls (Pitbull #1 & Pitbull #2) (w/Francine)

A hectic brawl between The Pitbulls and Dudleyz. Nothing special, a lot of just small jumps and chair shots around the arena. No legit finish though made this match sort of dumb though. On the PPV replay the match just cuts to black.

1.5 / 5

Singles Match
Taz (w/Bill Alfonso) vs. Devon Storm

A short match with two guys who didn’t mesh well. Devon had some good high flying moves and Taz did his tossing him around bit. The finish spot to the table outside where he misses and lands on his head is brutal.

1.5 / 5

Singles Match
Little Guido (w/JT Smith) vs. Axl Rotten

Axl hitting Guido with a legit pie someone in the crowd had was fantastic. A mediocre at best match with two guys with styles that didn’t mesh. Not horrendous but nothing to worry about watching.

1.5 / 5

Tag Team Match
The Sandman & Too Cold Scorpio (w/Missy Hyatt) vs. The Bruise Brothers (Don Harris & Ron Harris)

Most of this match is them whipping Sandman with a belt then when it finally starts to get itself back together its done. Boring at best.

1 / 5

Singles Match
Brian Lee vs. Tommy Dreamer

A decent brawl but nothing special. Brawls have been common all PPV long so this wasn’t anything great. No big spots happening either really.

1.5 / 5

No Time Limit Match
Sabu vs. Rob Van Dam

A really fun nonstop action spot fest between Sabu and RVD. Mixed high flying, brawling, and even technical spots together and let both men just hurl themselves at one another for this one. While prolly not the best of their history together this is a fun one to just watch and not think much about.

3.5 / 5

ECW World Heavyweight Title Match
Raven (w/Stevie Richards & The Blue Meanie) (c) vs. Shane Douglas

A fun main event finish that was all over the place. Brawling in the crowd, technical spots, and the only blood of the night let Douglas and Raven do their thing. Raven had his string of run ins and there were close falls to where you though Douglas might take the belt back. While the match didn’t change the history books with anything done it was still an enjoyable close to the PPV in its own way.
