ECW – Anarchy Rulz 1999 (Wrestling Review)

ECW

Anarchy Rulz

Villa Park, IL

Sept. 19th, 1999

Singles Match
Lance Storm (w/Dawn Marie) vs. Jerry Lynn

A barnburner classic of an opener. Two of the best workers period killed it here. Jerry Lynn will go down as the most underrated worker ever. Plenty of near falls and great spots here with the crowd eating every move up.

Singles Match
Jazz vs. The Prodigy

Boring beat down angle.

Tag Team Match
Chris Chetti & Nova vs. Simon Diamond & Tony DeVito

A match full of no ones that was over quick. Points on them for improvising since Chris Chetti seemingly got hurt during the opening seconds of the match.

Three Way Match
Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. Super Crazy vs. Little Guido (w/Sal E. Graziano)

A lot of big fun spots. Commentary was a bit goofy at times. This was what you’d expect from these three. Could have used maybe a few minutes shaved off though.

Singles Match
Sabu (w/Bill Alfonso) vs. Justin Credible (w/Jason)

This was a fun brawl. A few minutes shorter would have made it excellent. It was pretty much what you’d expect, a lot of spots. A lot of table spots here and Sabu redoing his spots until he could nail it. Justin Credible bled a ton from his head too at one point.

ECW World Heavyweight Title Three Way Match
Taz (c) vs. Mike Awesome (w/Jeff Jones) vs. Masato Tanaka

The crowd was super against Taz here because they knew he was leaving after this match to go to WWF. They got Taz out of the way early into this match which was smart and let Awesome / Tanaka have their moment. Both men are legends and were the perfect guys to fight. They can’t have a bad match and this just proves it.

4 / 5

ECW World Tag Team Title Match
Raven & Tommy Dreamer (w/Francine) (c) vs. Rhino & Steve Corino (w/Jack Victory)

This only lasts a few minutes and is just random brawling mostly. Nothing really good and they kept it short before the crowd could turn against the match.

1.5 / 5

ECW World Television Title Match
Rob Van Dam (w/Bill Alfonso) (c) vs. Balls Mahoney

This was a fine match but not exactly a main event. Balls did well here given this wasn’t the normal match he’d get in ECW. The big moments here were the spots and RVD’s jump to the crowd is always insane impressive.
