Daughtry and Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale come together from “Separate Ways” to cover a Journey classic

Even if they aren’t Daughtry fans, most music fans know about the sorrowful last year and change and American Idol alumni Chris Daughtry has persevered through. He and the rest of the band powered through 2022 with a cover of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” a few months ago and multiple tour runs. (Those include multiple summer dates with Black Stone Cherry, summer festival stops including Blue Ridge Rock Festival, and multiple late summer and fall dates with Pop Evil.)

A new year often calls for empowerment and rejuvenation, and Daughtry’s newly-released cover of Journey’s hit song “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” embodies that. Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale accompanied Daughtry to create rich harmonies and melodies on top of the intense instrumentals (synths included). While the track offers different energy to Journey’s version, it offers its own emotional intensity fitting to the lyrical content in more modern rock packaging.
