Ontario melodic hardcore veterans (seriously!) Counterparts are currently slaying the Vans Warped Tour all summer, and they’re bringing out their new record You’re Not You Anymore, their 5th full-length, out on Pure Noise Records September 22nd. Counterparts is a great example of a band that has stuck to a proven formula, yet also tweaks their sound just enough for some variation between albums. I believe Counterparts to be one of the few bands that fans can count on for a great effort every time out, especially in a genre that’s often lacking significant variance.
I was lucky enough to talk to vocalist Brendan Murphy about the upcoming album, which you can find below. Brendan and I talked for over a half hour about the new Misery Signals documentary Yesterday Was Everything, why the new Counterparts album is the band’s best yet, and their “little brothers” in Knocked Loose (who are drawing some massive crowds).
Featured Artist: Of Virtue. Ambient metalcore from Lansing, Michigan. Their newest song, “Ghost Town”, can be found below.
