Speaking with someone for the first time, you often get a sense of their personality and outlook on life – but it’s often a mirage. When it’s the vocalist for a band that plays incredibly dense and heavy hardcore/metalcore that might sound straight out of the late 90’s, and a band that has been packing hundreds of people into a tiny stage at Warped Tour all summer, you realize that the person you’re talking to is likely to be one of the new faces of heavy music. After all, you don’t go from being a local act in Oldham County to touring with Every Time I Die in a couple years by elfin magic.
Clearly the fame hasn’t gotten to the head of vocalist Bryan Garris, though. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Bryan is more reserved than most would think the vocalist of a heavy band is. Shockingly enough, this is a band that is at home playing local basement shows just as much as they are supporting some massive bands. Their debut full-length, 2016’s Laugh Tracks, even entered the Billboard charts its first week at #163. Name a dozen bands in this scene that have done that recently? Good luck.
I caught up with Bryan in a lengthy interview at the St Pete stop of the Vans Warped Tour, which you can find below. Make no mistake. Knocked Loose’s success is not the flash-in-the-pan type – they’re gonna be around for a long, long time. The kids are listening.
