BRB crying, because Dayseeker just released an emotional new song, “Without Me”

It’s hard not to be impressed by Dayseeker. The band’s emotionally gratifying sound manages to channel emotion that plumbs the very depths of the soul, all while not sounding hackneyed or cliched. This hot streak has continued even after softening their sound a bit over recent albums, with 2019’s Sleeptalk catapulting the band to the success they’d been working towards for years. Whether it’s Rory Rodriguez’s massive vocal abilities or the band’s great songwriting, it’s all working for Dayseeker right now.

That makes the band’s upcoming fifth full-length album a pivotal one. Dark Sun is out November 4th, and we’re getting a taste of it with a new single, “Without Me”, right now. No, it’s not an Eminem cover or anything, but it does come from a place of a past relationship, and the inevitable question of what went wrong?

About the new song and album, Rory Rodriguez had this to say about the concept of both:

“”Without Me” is about an old relationship that died and how it begged to ask the question: ‘How do you feel the same without me as a part of their life?’. ‘Dark Sun’ is a collection of songs that deeply explored my personal life over the last two years. Most of it is written about my father’s passing, about how it felt like the sun burned out the day he passed, and how the world is a little darker without him in it.”
