Remember when blackbear used to be in a scene band? Same. As a member of the band Polaroid, Matthew Musto gained fast popularity even when he was in high school. Obviously, things didn’t stop there. Both in demand as a songwriter (he co-wrote Justin Bieber’s massive hit “Boyfriend”) and as a featured artist on songs by everyone from Mike Shinoda to post-hardcore bands like Palisades, it’s blackbear’s solo career that’s really taken off over the last 5+ years.
His megahit “Hot Girl Bummer” is actually about to hit one billion streams on Spotify (and about to be in some exclusive company), but that’s not all – the musician now has 4 new Gold and Platinum RIAA certifications for “Queen Of Broken Hearts” + “Anxiety” (Gold) and “I Miss The Old U” and “Hot Girl Bummer” (Platinum and 4X Platinum, respectively). With a new album on the way soon, he’ll surely be adding to that total as well.
