Part of metalcore’s commercially successful wave of newcomers in the early part of the new millennium, Avenged Sevenfold’s Waking The Fallen joined bands like Atreyu and Killswitch Engage in helping to replace nu-metal as the new decade’s biggest craze. Needless to say, Waking The Fallen resulted in just about every major label trying to sign A7X, and for good reason – the high octane metal band were moving up the ladder quickly.
While they’re a much more known quantity today, the high flying band were once an untested unit trying to find their way. Waking The Fallen was the catalyst Avenged Sevenfold needed in terms of reaching a wider audience, and while it’s a midpoint between the metalcore of the band’s early days and the more streamlined, accessible direction they pursued on future records, it’s still one that is arguably the band’s best. And today, the album – and its single “Unholy Confessions” – have reached two major milestones.
Long story short, the album was recently certified as the band’s second Platinum record, and its massive single “Unholy Confessions” also adds a Gold plaque to their name. Congrats to the band, who have certainly worked hard to attain this status.
