Atreyu earns second RIAA Gold-certified record with 2004’s ‘The Curse’

Long one of metalcore’s most commercially successful acts, Atreyu’s 2004 album The Curse helped launch the young band into stardom – just as the genre was beginning to overtake nu-metal as one of metal’s most popular subgenres. While the band has previously reached lofty heights with multiple top ten Billboard debuts (#8 for 2007’s Lead Sails Paper Anchor and #9 for 2006’s A Death-Grip On Yesterday, the band’s sophomore album has now reached a big milestone they’ve attained once before.

The Curse, which remains a fan favorite to this day, has now been certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of over 500,000 albums sold. It joins Lead Sails Paper Anchor as the band’s second to reach this milestone. The album, which has many of Atreyu’s live staples like “Right Side Of The Bed”, “The Crimson”, and the underrated “Nevada’s Curse”, was a catalyst for the band to reach new heights. Alongside bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Killswitch Engage, Atreyu helped metalcore become a commercially viable metal sub-genre – and it’s one of the band’s 7 albums to debut on the Billboard Top 200. That’s some impressive longevity.
