Apparently being a “Mainstream Sellout” worked, because Machine Gun Kelly has the #1 record in the USA (again)

Machine Gun Kelly is more popular than reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee, at least in terms of this week’s new albums. His new album Mainstream Sellout apparently worked to perfection. Through a combination of pre-release hype and publicized spats with everyone from Corey Taylor to pop-punk bands that are apparently jealous of his success, the album is now his second to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 – even more than The Weeknd and every other pop megastar out there.

As Variety notes, the album did indeed sell more than Daddy Yankee’s new album, though it actually sold around 30k units less than 2020’s Ticket To My Downfall. Working with official Warped Tour drummer Travis Barker once again, the album features collaborations with Bring Me The Horizon, blackbear, and many more prominent musicians. As also noted, it’s the first rock album to debut at #1 since AC/DC in 2020.
