Album Review: “Permanence” by Storm the Sky

Storm the Sky is a six piece band from Melbourne, Australia. Once releasing their EP ‘Vigilance’ in 2013, it was met with an overwhelming response which led them to tour around Australia for 18 months consistently, packed with high energy shows and amazing dual vocals.   Permanence was recorded by US Producer Cameron Mizell, whose work includes Memphis May Fire and Sleeping With Sirens, among many others. Considering the record had been completely self funded, nothing was able to get in the way of the band’s vision for their debut album, which sets a new tone for the band with a dark direction compared to their EP which was released in 2013. The full length also features guest vocals from Jake Taylor (In Hearts Wake), Matty Mullins (Memphis May Fire) and Trenton Smith (Hands Like Houses).

The album starts off with a song called ‘Alive’, which has a very ambient intro that would remind you very much of Bring Me the Horizon‘s ‘Sempiternal’ album, but also reminds myself personally of the band Our Last Night, which I believe could have been a very big influence on this band as the album’s concept is based on the idea of why a person is put on this Earth and how their existence is even necessary or relevant considering there are 7 billion people on this Earth. ‘Same Graves’, the second song and the first single on the album is a much heavier and melodic, once again bringing in that same theme they began with in their lyrics, but with a heavier accent than the first, they also have a music video for said song which will be at the end of the article.

All in all, this is a solid album and I highly recommend it to those who are fans of Hands Like Houses, Our Last Night, Bring Me The Horizon, and other bands who are similar.
