Rage Against The Machine’s self-titled debut album, which turns 30 this November, is still a cultural and musical landmark to this day. Helping establish rap and metal as a musical collision course, the band immediately became infamous for their music – as well as their stage antics and demonstrations. In particular, the song “Killing In The Name” is an unforgettable one to almost any generation. It’s been given a new lease on life, too. Following the firing of several prominent on-air DJs, a Vancouver radio station has been playing Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name” on a non-stop loop for almost 24 hours now.
According to the Vancouver Sun, the song is being played in the wake of several on-air DJs being fired, and it’s been playing nonstop on a loop since 0600 AM Pacific on Wednesday. According to Ghost Cult, fans called the station to either change the song or request something else, but all the requests were indeed fruitless.
Knowing the nature of how music trends work, it’s not going to be a huge surprise to see the song experience a spike when it comes to streams across all channels, no matter how popular the song may be already.
