RBD bring a rare concert to Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago for 2 nights of a once in a lifetime celebration of “Rebelde”

For the first time in 15 years, RBD returned to Chicago. Making their first appearance since 2008, the group descended upon Guaranteed Rate Field for 2 nights celebrating the band and “Rebelde”. The venue, home to the Chicago White Sox, is a rare place for a concerts. Its last event was hosting Chicagos own Chance The Rapper for his festival in 2016 but for these two nights RBD made it feel like home on the cities southside.

Coming down from the rafters of the stage, Anahí, Christian Chávez, Dulce María, Maite Perroni and Christopher von Uckermann, arrived to nonstop cheers from the packed stadium. Though not the original 6 as Alfonso ‘Poncho’ Herrera has opted out of returning, the group made up for it with ease and thankfully for fans decided to return as a 5 piece.

Blasting through a 2+ hour set that included songs from the show and their albums as well as costume and set changes the band made the evening a spectacle. Fans were dressed to impress with Elite Way School (the boarding school from the Rebelde telenovela) outfits all sparkled up and ready to sing along; and sing along they did.

In my years and years of not only covering events but just enjoying live music this is at in the top tier for loudest crowds. For nearly every song the crowd sang their heart out reliving their youth while the band belted their hearts out in return. Clearly happy to be not only back together but on stage the band was brought to near tears several times throughout the evening seeing the response from this crowd.

Ending the evening was the moment the crowd had been waiting all night for. As workers brought five mannequins, wearing the iconic Elite Way School red blazer onstage, the crowd rushed the aisles to get closer to the stage. As the band approached, putting on the blazers, confetti covered the air as fans danced and sang “Rebelde”. This was an evening many fans have waited forever for and with the chances that RBD never returns, this is a moment that will live in fans hearts forever.
