Shadows Fall is working on their first new music since 2012

Shadows Fall emerged in the early part of the new millennium with one of thrash/metalcore’s more interesting outputs. While never quite achieving the popularity of bands like Killswitch Engage and Lamb Of God, they’ve nonetheless garnered critical acclaim across the board, with two Grammy nominations and a diehard fanbase. Musically, they evolved as well – the band’s technical proficiency and lyrics always struck a chord with different kinds of heavy music fans. In fact, the band’s song “Those Who Cannot Speak” (off their 2004 album The War Within) was dedicated to vocalist Brian Fair’s autistic niece and nephew, showing a different side of the band that people could often relate to (and it’s even more relevant now).

Shadows Fall haven’t released an album since 2012’s Fire From The Sky, though. And while the members of SF are involved in numerous side projects, they’ve played limited shows since then – though appearances at Furnace Fest recently have kept the fire (from the sky) going. That is apparently going to change, though, if Brian Fair’s new interview w/Jamey Jasta is any indication.

Helpfully transcribed by Blabbermouth, Brian Fair discussed the possibility of new Shadows Fall music, and what the rollout might look like for it:

“I will finally say there are riffs that are turning into skeletons that might become songs. Now, what happens with them, where they go, we’ll see. But once we started jamming [for the recent reunion shows], we were, like, ‘What’s the point of doing this without writing new riffs?’ And we had to make sure they were gonna sound like Shadows Fall; we didn’t wanna come out of nowhere with something different, out of left field.

But so far, they’re coming together, man, and I’m stoked on what I’m hearing. So hopefully that’ll continue, that’ll continue on. But as far as dropping a whole record… Who knows? These days it’s different anyway. Shit, we can just drop a few random singles and then see where it goes. But I’m excited that we’re writing, that we’re doing things. And so far what I’ve heard has been amazing… I haven’t really committed, but we are finally getting our shit together and getting some riffs together.”
