There’s something to be said for keeping a similar musical formula on each record, especially when it results in continued success. Many modern rock bands fall in line with this – it’s not a secret why bands like Nickelback, Theory Of A Deadman, and Skillet continue to be successful on rock radio. Why fix what isn’t broken? Why diverge from a formula that’s brought you stability and immense fan support?
Three Days Grace are definitely in the above category, for better or for worse. Since vocalist Matt Walst (of My Darkest Days) entered the fold to replace Adam Gontier, the band has experienced similar success – with #1 rock radio hits abounding. While replacing Adam Gontier was certainly a tall task, you can’t totally argue with their success. Does the band’s new single, “So Called Life”, continue that streak though? That’s up to you to decide. The band’s new single is off their upcoming full-length, Explosions, due out in May of 2022 – so there’s plenty of time to digest it.
