NFM Horror-Thon 2020 : Hubie Halloween (2020) Review

Adam Sandler in the last decade has been a whirlwind of emotions film wise. From Uncut Gems, a gem which should of won him an Oscar, to the lowest rung of the Netflix totem poll with The Ridiculous Six, Sandler’s career has been a mixed bag. Hubie Halloween falls half way between both delivering a stupid mindless comedy that has a nice message to back it up.

We follow Hubie Dubois, a man who has lived in Salem forever, and would give his all for everyone around him while being the laughing stock of the entire town. He’s a man who loves to do everything to protect his town while also being afraid of everything. When people start to go missing though on Halloween night Hubie takes it upon himself though to protect his town and find out who is abducting everyone.

This film follows the usual Adam Sandler bouts of jokes geared towards 12 year olds, cameos with every friend of his, and a lot of slapstick humor. Yet it works, its funny, and no matter how often people complain he still manages to make situations that are funny. Sandler isn’t trying to win awards with these comedies, has stated he uses them as vacation with friends, but he also still puts in the same amount of comedic effort as he did in the 90’s.

If you are looking for a lighthearted comedy with a feel good message that at no point in time even tries to take itself seriously Hubie Halloween isn’t a bad way to go. It has some great dumb jokes, fun cameos, and Halloween fun galore and what more could you ask for.

Score :

6/10
