With their newest album, Ohms, Deftones continue to prove that they’re a band that can outlast just about any musical trend out there. With three Platinum records and one Gold under their belts, the alt-metal legends have become a key influence on so many of today’s rock and metal bands that it’s just mind-boggling. The band’s new album, their ninth full-length to date, landed another stellar first-week debut on multiple Billboard charts – and that’s not really much of a surprise either.
As Metal Injection notes, the album sold around 49,000 copies in its first week of release, including around 43,000 physical copies. While paling in comparison album sales-wise to 2003’s self-titled Deftones (which clocked in at over 167,000 albums sold), it’s still a big week in this current musical climate. And compounded by the coronavirus pandemic and the band’s inability to tour in support of the record, the band’s top 5 Billboard debut cements the band’s place in alternative and metal music as a mainstay. Congrats are in order, certainly.
