Multiple sources, including Chris Cornell’s representative, have confirmed that Soundgarden and Audioslave vocalist Chris Cornell has died at the age of 52. According to the Independent UK, the cause of death is unknown, and it was “sudden and unexpected”.
I personally witnessed him playing with Soundgarden 3 weeks ago at Fort Rock Festival in Fort Myers, so this is incredibly emotional to me. I grew up listening to his voice, and “Black Hole Sun” was one of Soundgarden’s biggest tracks. We don’t know how he died yet, but that’s not the point – he went out doing what he loved, as 8 hours ago he posted a tweet at a show.
Chris Cornell is a veritable legend, and his time with both Soundgarden and as part of the supergroup Audioslave are both fondly remembered, as is his solo work, so listen to Soundgarden’s 1994 opus Superunknown below, and relive some incredible memories. What a talent, he will never be forgotten.
