Show Preview: Slightly Stoopid, Soja, and Fortunate Youth

Return-Of-The-Red-Eye-Summer-2016

If there’s anything I’ve learned in the hundreds of shows I’ve attended over the years, it’s that fans want an experience. With any genre of music, you’re surely going to get different vibes and feelings from each, but is there anything that really compares to a reggae rock show? Having seen The Expendables, Ballyhoo!, and Sublime w/Rome multiple times (not to mention plenty of others), there’s nothing like a reggae rock show. There’s just a different type of energy there. And when Slightly Stoopid, Soja, and Fortunate Youth hit Maryland August 21st, it’s going to be an event, that much is certain.

Fortunate Youth

Fortunate Youth may be the opening band on the bill, but don’t sleep on their fusion of reggae, rock, and dub. Here’s their new video for “Pass The Herb”.

Soja

Soja’s most recent album, Amid The Noise And Haste, was jam-packed with guest appearances and featured the most interesting batch of songs in the long-running band’s career. It was also nominated for a 2015 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, which in all honesty, the band should have won.

Slightly Stoopid

Good vibes are the story of Slightly Stoopid, whose fusion of punk rock, reggae, dub, and other seemingly disparate genres has been an institution for over 2 decades. Stunningly, they’ve never lost steam – high charting albums and sold out tours with everyone you can think of have cemented the band as a must-see live show.

Remaining tour dates:

8/21 – Baltimore, MD
8/25 – Minneapolis, MN
8/26 – Chicago, IL
8/27 – Cleveland, OH
8/28 – Detroit, MI
