2014 was an spectacular year for metal with countless releases from every corner imaginable. Every subgenre saw multiple albums that achieved incredible feats from Job For A Cowboy’s “Sun Eater” to Behemoth’s “The Satanist”. A new year has recently rolled in and we can only hope to see a fraction of great new music to be released. Is 2015 going to be as good as 2014 was for metal? What new albums should you look forward to?
10. Skinless – TBA
Brutal death metal act, Skinless, has taken to their Facebook page in 2014 to expect a new album in 2015. This is quite the surprise since we have not seen a Skinless album since “Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead” which came out nine years ago (which was also an incredible effort). Not to mention, Skinless now has a new lineup. This will definitely be interesting to see the final product considering all these circumstances. The new album’s title has not been announced yet and should hopefully be released on Relapse Records in the near future.
9. All Shall Perish – TBA
I certainly was not expecting to hear anything about All Shall Perish anytime soon. Considering previous vocalist, Eddie Hermida, is now a full-time member of Suicide Silence and drummer Adam Pierce has recently been announced as the new official drummer for Emmure, I thought All Shall Perish wouldn’t be happening again anytime soon. However, Nuclear Blast recently posted a photo that depicted many logos from their roster along with the year 2015 (hinting at releases to expect in the next year). Looks like we might be getting new All Shall Perish after all.
8. Periphery – “Juggernaut Alpha” + “Juggernaut Omega”
Periphery are releasing their latest right in the beginning of 2015. The latest release is a double album: Juggernaut Alpha and Juggernaut Omega. Periphery continues to rise as a powerful force in progressive metal and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. If you haven’t been living under a rock, you already know Periphery have debuted a couple new killer songs. Juggernaut Alpha and Juggernaut Omega will come out on January 27th. Check out “Alpha” here.
7. Meshuggah – TBA
Along with All Shall Perish, Meshuggah is another familar logo we can see on the Nuclear Blast’s photo depicting releases we can expect in 2015. Not a single Meshuggah release is a letdown and I don’t think the follow-up to “Koloss” is going to be any different. Rumor has it, Meshuggah may be using 9-string guitars on the newest album. How much heavier can Meshuggah get?
6. Between the Buried and Me – TBA
Who wouldn’t be excited for a new BTBAM album? Lucky for us, we will be most likely seeing a new album right around the corner. BTBAM is currently in the studio recording their eighth album and is last reported to being halfway through recording bass and rhythm guitars. The latest BTBAM will be released through Metal Blade Records and should be out this Summer.
5. Carach Angren – “This Is No Fairytale”
Nobody has made as large a footprint as Carach Angren has in symphonic black metal the past couple years. Hailing from the Netherlands, Carach Angren is known to bring concept albums to a completely new level on every aspect from atmosphere to lyrical content. CA’s fourth full-length will be released towards the end of February on Season of Mist. You can preview a new song right here.
4. Leviathan – “Scar Sighted”
One of America’s most prominent one man black metal bands will be releasing a new album after a four year wait since “True Traitor, True Whore”. Wrest’s (mastermind behind Leviathan) fifth full length should be no surprise to listeners who are familiar with Leviathan’s unique take on dark art. Scar Sighted will be released on March 3rd from Profound Lore Records. Listen to “All Tongues Toward” here.
3. Nile – TBA
The last on the list of the revealed new releases from Nuclear Blast’s photo is technical death metal outfit Nile. Anybody who knows the complex musicianship, superb themes, and overall astonishing sound of Nile has to be excited for new material. There is no official release date or album title, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t be excited to hear the follow-up to 2012’s “At the Gates of Sethu”. However, Nile has announced they will be heading off to Europe with Suffocation in September/October after the release of their eighth album. Maybe new Nile in August?
2. Cattle Decapitation – TBA
Cattle Decapitation gained quite the fan base after the release of the critically acclaimed “Monolith of Inhumanity”. Considered by many to be one of the best modern death metal releases, fans are ecstatic to know that Cattle Decapitation are once again in the studio. With each full-length having high-ratings, I think its safe to expect a spectacular new Cattle album. We are guessing that we will see Cattle Decapitation’s sixth full-length this summer.
1. Deafheaven – TBA
Nobody exploded into the world of metal quite like Deafheaven did with their sophomore effort “Sunbather”. The 2013 release was noted by many for its outstanding take on originality and depth by not only metal fans, but many others as well. Deafheaven took to their Facebook page late 2014 with the status “LP3 2015”. How could anyone not be excited for that? Check out the single “From the Kettle Onto the Coil” here.
