Has it really been that long? Progressive metalcore stars Northlane and their debut full-length, 2011’s Discoveries, was released on this day in 2011. The list of modern-day bands who are influenced by the band is long – Invent, Animate in particular is one of the band’s biggest jumpoff points.
One of two records that the band released with their former vocalist Adrian, Discoveries immediately put the band on the progressive metalcore map. A big improvement from their debut EP Hollow Existence, the vastly improved production and songwriting on songs like the title track and “Transcending Dimensions” helped the band gain a regional foothold in their native Australia. Four full-lengths later, the band’s innovation has resulted in a highly decorated career – but it’s Discoveries that started it all.
