Misery Signals is a metalcore band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has been a band since 2002. This is their first release in 5 years and I am truly happy they are back in action and they have come back in full force.

Absent Light is Misery Signals 4th release and it is definitely one of their best. I have been listening to them since their formation and have their previous 3 albums and this is by far my favorite one. Their sound seems to have matured in that brief break they took. They are returning with a few new members (Gregory on guitar and Kyle came back on bass after leaving the band for a couple of years).

I’m not a fan of giving you all a track by track review because it can become quite long, so I will pick my favorite tracks off of the album and give you reasons why. My favorite track off of this album is Carrier. It was Karl’s vocals Branden’s drumming that really caught me on this song. Everything about this song was awesome including the guitar work and bass undertones to really solidify this song for me. Reborn (An Execution) is another one that I really liked. The ending in particular with this song is amazing. It has a bit of a metal meets orchestra style to it. I also have to give it to them for their intro to the album “A Glimmer Of Hope”. A lot of times, intro’s don’t really do it for me but this one really sets up the album. About a minute into it, I thought it was going to be the generic intro I always hear but them Karl’s starts screaming and it was the perfect way to end it and I think it was smart of them to do so.

All in all, this is an awesome album and if you are into metalcore bands, this is definitely going to be one that you will remember and will be rocking out to for some time. They currently have this album up on their website for free streaming along with bandcamp (which you can get your digital copy from today) and physical copies will be available July 30th.
