Backwordz – they’ve got a musical career that is going anywhere but backwards. This street hop/metal band is hard, heavy, and in your face spitting truth and if you don’t like it they don’t care. Check out what they had to say after the jump in our latest interview.

Italics: Alex James (Backwordz)

So thank you Alex for giving me the time to do this interview!

Always a pleasure!

So you guys have two singles and a cover, so far what is your favorite song you guys have wrote?

It’s safe to say every new song we write is our new favorite, so we all really like the cover. We took a great song from a great artist and made it our own in a creative way, I think that’s something to be proud of.

Out of all the songs to cover, what persuaded you to chose Till I Collapse?

Well it was a toss up between two Eminem songs, we settled on “Till I Collapse” because the message it sent fit perfectly within the vein of the next song we’ll be releasing.

I see you guys are playing “The End of Summer Bash” in Dallas, Texas. That must be a big deal to you guys right, how does it feel to be playing a festival like that so early on in the band’s career?

We’re definitely excited! We have been anxious to debut on stage, but we knew it needed to be a big deal; what better way to debut than headlining a festival?

Speaking of festivals, if you guys had the chance to play any big music festival which one would you choose and why?

Well I can’t speak for the rest of the band on this one, but for me, internationally, I’d love to play Roskilde. Stateside, Coachella would be awesome.

Going deep for a minute, what kind of message are you guys as a band trying to send to your listeners and potential listeners?

It’s a pretty simple message for the most part: be real. You can dig deeper into it where we tackle politics, the music industry, personal experiences, etc. But it all ties back into being real with yourself and others.

Of course I’d like to thank Alex for giving me the time for this interview, so onto the last and final question. This new album, what can you tell us about it? Release date maybe or concept behind it?

We can’t say much right now, just know that what we have put out so far only scratches the surface for what we’ll be releasing.

You can catch Backwordz on the upcoming End of Summer Bash festival in Dallas, Texas on August 23rd. Check out their awesome cover of Till I Collapse below:
