With the ever-growing popularity of music streaming sites Arena may have reached the next step with their new artist-friendly streaming music service, Listen to Own.

The service would allow users to download a song for free after having streamed it five times. It’s not only beneficial to the fans as the artist will earn $0.21 per song play as well as MP3 Royalties.

Once the user has streamed a track 5 times, Arena will give them an MP3 file to download and own. The artist will be paid $0.85 as well as the $0.21 for the 5 streams. In this way, the artist can earn a potential $1.90 per song per listener.

Damon Evans, Founder and CEO of Arena had this to say:

Listen To Own makes it easy to picture what the transition to an economically viable and artist-friendly streaming model looks like while maintaining the historic understanding of what a sellable music ‘unit’ is in today’s marketplace,”

Any artist interested would have to request an invite. If accepted, the artist would have to pay a one-time setup fee per project which can be deferred a number of ways. The artist would then be required to sell merchandise through the platform.

There are additional perks for actively participating in posting videos, writing reviews, and more. Registered members can earn Arena sales credits, which can be used to redeem merchandise, music, and movies.

There are multiple streaming music services available, but so far Listen to Own seems to be the fairest for both the fans and the artist.
