Indie pop/rock foursome Homemade Crazy stopped by to discuss 5 albums that changed their lives – one album each, and one as a collective whole. Max: The Fratellis – Costello Music

Costello Music is the first album that I heard in a long time that made me feel like rock and roll was still alive and relevant. It was the sound I was looking for in new music I spent a lot of time listening to old rock and roll albums and my mom of all people showed it to me and I fell in love. The more I heard the songs the more I realized how it was influencing my musical style and even the way I felt about my own life. That’s what makes it so meaningful to me. I still listen to that album all the time and enjoy every second of it. Honorable mention: the raconteurs – broken boy soldier

Breezy: The Doors – self titled album was the very first vinyl I ever purchased. I remember listening to Ray Manzarek before I ever delved into learning piano and being entranced by his unique rocking, psychedelic style. I listened to this album and was inspired by the talent equality, which still pushes me every day to work on my skills not only for myself but for my band family. I love everything Doors. Aaron: Modest Mouse – The Moon and Antarctica

I think I was like ten when that album dropped. It was the first time I ever heard anything like it. The opening track “3rd Planet” made me speechless from the start. Its deep and made me question everything. It turned my world upside down. I realized I didn’t know a thing about good music. Modest Mouse in general is great, I enjoy all their albums but this album in particular was the very first album I stumbled across that was truly different from everything else I had heard. The bass lines, guitar melodies and unique vocals in my opinion make this album timeless.
Honorable mention: Radiohead – in rainbows

Koby: Green Day – “Dookie”

Where do I begin …..Dookie to me is the sole most important piece of creativity, grouped companionship, and real life awareness that I had ever experienced. I don’t remember the first time I ever witnessed the ‘Longview’ video but I do remember the first record I ever laid eyes and ears on…Dookie…which in my book has one of the greatest albums of all time. I’ve loved it since day one I was sold by the artwork but once I slipped the record in I was trapped and still am lol …I’m trapped in a place I don’t want to escape from. I was hooked immedietly and I didn’t even know how bad it was… It was clearly mapped out in my head and without even realizing it I wanted this thing I knew nothing about. had to get my hands on it so I needed a guitar and I needed to start shouting what my heart was telling me to say. It was 3 friends doing their thing and I appreciate that. It was my dream that I was watching and listening and learning about right in front of my eyes. It’s like man, these guys are just playing a few chords and singing about real stuff …Stuff that you live for and love and relate to…Greenday is hard not to like but ‘Dookie’ is impossible to hate imo and the pure longevity of the band and the record is something I strive for in Homemade Crazy. They are my best friends and we are laying it all on the line for not only us but everyone out there. To show that it is possible to take a guitar, a few buddys and turn it in to not only a few killer tunes but a piece of art that will stand the test of timev is truly amazing. It will set a goal for future bands and set the standard for any artist trying to market their brand .. The album isn’t only about business because real life is everyone’s business and that’s exactly the message I take from DOOKIE! Honorable mention: Nirvana – Nevermind

Incubus – science
Science was a very inspirational album from our youth. We loved that Incubus was making music they enjoyed. They weren’t trying to please anybody but themselves. They were an example of abundant talent; Every member in the band could arguably be considered the best at what they do. Original bass player: Dirk Lance has the absolute best bass tone out there and is the reason Paiz plays Warwick basses and Eden amps. They have changed lineups since then and leaned more towards a commercial sound but we probably would have never started playing in a band without their inspiration.
