The Weekly 5×5 Playlist, 02/16/15 (Bradley)

collage (1)

Every Monday for the foreseeable future, I’ll be posting a 5×5 photo of the albums I’ve listened to during the week. It’ll give you an idea of some new stuff I’m jamming, some older stuff I’ll never stop listening to, and everything in between. Who knows? Maybe you’ll discover something new, too.

Of the 25 albums I’ve listened to most this past week, there’s a few that are really intriguing.

Papa Roach (F.E.A.R.)

Papa Roach’s new album was a pleasant surprise for me. I’ve always thought their albums were competent at the very least, but F.E.A.R. is their best album in a decade. They’ve branched out here with synths on most of the album, as well as some interesting influences on “Falling Apart” – the best track on the album. I’m serious when I say the track could fit right in on the new Periphery album.

Snapcase (Progression Through Unlearning)

Surely one of Victory Records’ best releases, Progression Through Unlearning is an album full of the kind of splintering post-hardcore that saw them tour with Deftones, Cave In, and Quicksand for a long time.

Deftones (White Pony)

I don’t need to give reasons why this album is a bonafide classic. But if you need one, listen to the gorgeously haunting “Passenger”.

Bad Religion (Against the Grain)

Punk rock, super fast.

The Weeknd (Thursday)

The emotions of being in a fog and struggling to wake up.

Linkin Park (Hybrid Theory)

Relive your youth again. You’ll be singing every word by the end of the album. “A Place For My Head” is the best track here.

Alcest (Les Voyages De L’ame)

Find the beauty in life. Alcest is the soundtrack to nature and all that it entails.

Anakin (Celestial Frequency Shifter)

Some of the catchiest Failure-influenced alt rock you’ll find all year, complete with synths to heighten the experience. Recommended.
