Unfortunately this may be the last edition of the 5×5 Playlist for some time, as I’m about to start a job and have a baby (awesome, right?). Here’s a general overview of what I’ve been jamming this past week, though. Some new blood in here, as well some new releases by Pillow Talk and Gates in the mix. Check out the Spotify Playlist after the jump for some stellar music from each band. Note: Lieutenant’s debut record (it’s Nate Mendel of Foo Fighters/Sunny Day Real Estate fame) wasn’t available on Spotify at the time of this post, but you can stream the album on NME right here. Neither was The Angelic Process (FFO: Deafheaven, Have A Nice Life) and their album Weighing Souls With Sand, but thanks to the power of Youtube, it’s available for consumption too.
A brief overview of some of these releases – the new Pillow Talk EP is great, I think them and Daisyhead should go on a tour together. Gates and their debut full-length Bloom And Breathe was my personal favorite album of 2014, and is an emotionally gripping epic that combines post-rock, post-hardcore, and indie rock styling similar to Thrice or The Appleseed Cast. What do I need to say about Killswitch Engage? Metalcore legends.
