Underoath is working on new music

Quarantine hasn’t stopped Underoath from putting on 3 of the most impressive livestream shows you’ll see this year, and while the band isn’t able to take their tour on the road just yet, there is some likely good news – the band is apparently working on the follow-up to 2018’s comeback album, Erase Me.

Thanks to a handy post found in the brand new Underoath Fans group (which you should join if you haven’t), a screenshot of drummer Aaron Gillespie’s Instagram story (with Tim McTague tagged as well) revealed that the band appears to be working on new music – with a caption entitled simply “New UO in works. One set of footprints.” According to the thread, other members of the band have been posting about recording the new music on social media as well.

Given that it’s been a little over 2 years since the band released their comeback record Erase Me, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of direction the band takes here. Their 2010 album Disambiguation as well as the two singles they released prior to their initial disbanding (“Sunburnt” and “Unsound”) showcased a very exciting side to the band that was also critically acclaimed. Erase Me went in a more streamlined direction, as you may well remember, but it’s hard to fault Underoath for that sort of direction – it resulted in the metalcore band playing some of the biggest shows of their career, including arenas with some of the biggest bands in rock and metal.
