This Day In Music History: October 6th, 2007 – Parkway Drive releases explosive sophomore record, ‘Horizons’

While we’ve spoken at length about this album often over the years, the fact remains that Parkway Drive’s first few records are, to many, some of the first metalcore albums newer fans of the genre are likely to hear. And while there’s plenty of older and influential metalcore records that were released long before Parkway Drive ever existed, there’s still a reason they’re revered – it’s because their material is generally pretty quality (though this depends on who you ask).

Parkway Drive’s Horizons, which was released on October 6th, 2007, still maintains a unique aura in both the genre and the band itself. If the proper opening salvo of “The Siren’s Song” doesn’t rope you in, nothing will. It’s an expansive album that made several improvements to their formula.

Horizons was no sophomore slump, that’s for sure. With overall more mature lyrics and a sound that built upon their 2005 debut, it’s no surprise Horizons helped build their fanbase in a massive way. There was a time not long ago where Parkway Drive weren’t the major concert draw they are in North America, but Horizons (and subsequent albums after) helped change that. Notably, the album was again produced by Killswitch Engage’s Adam D., who at the time was fast becoming an in-demand producer for burgeoning metalcore bands in the scene.
