This Day In Music History: January 30, 1989 – Exodus releases thrash metal classic, “Fabulous Disaster”

To be blunt, Exodus’s catalogue is one of the most impressive in thrash metal. The band as a whole has always been underrated, at least when compared to the famed Big Four Of Thrash, but that’s unfair given how quality they’re generally been. Remember how good their 2004 comeback album, Tempo Of The Damned was?

Anyhow, their best album is often considered a close race between 1985 debut Bonded By Blood (which should have put them on the level of Metallica) and Fabulous Disaster, and while an argument can be made for either, it’s Fabulous Disaster that has many Exodus classics. “The Toxic Waltz”, a song that’s literally about a moshpit, and “Verbal Razors”, which has a downright nasty guitar tone, are just two of the best songs here. The Souza/Holt combination alwats worked out well in tandem. Fabulous Disaster, which turns 30 today, is a must-listen for any fan of thrash metal. It’s that simple.
