Listen to “u”, the ambient, electronic debut album from Omiah (Jake Wolf of Reflections)

Though the project’s bio states that Omiah is “a mixture of both electronic and acoustic instruments along with various sounds used for both percussion and composition of atmospheres and soundscapes”, it’s a little more difficult to categorize Omiah than one would think. Traces of IDM, post-rock, EDM, and other electronic-based genres abound, and the instrumental project is obviously a vast departure from what anyone would expect vocalist Jake Wolf of Reflections to attempt. The album, simply titled “u“, is a true work of art that fans of Massive Attack, Aphex Twin, and ambient soundscapes will want to pay attention to. And while work on new Reflections material is being worked on, perhaps seeing more Omiah material would be pretty cool, too.

Jake Wolf (Reflections) auctioning off notebook from “Shadow Self” lyric video

Minnesota progressive metal band Reflections have been fairly silent as of late, and with their most recent album The Color Clear turning 2 years old this week, much has been made about the band’s future direction. While the band has not made an official announcement yet, it seems likely from comments by the various band members that future material will be done independently of eOne Records, or any label, for that matter. And though the band hasn’t played a show in about a year’s time, they will be continuing on in some capacity. Which is great, because it seems the band was truly starting to hit their stride on The Color Clear.

Reflections vocalist Jake Wolf is now auctioning off a rare piece of art – the notebook that was used in the band’s lyric video for “Shadow Self”. Containing deeply personal lyrics that truly hit home for many a listener, the link to bid on a rare piece of Reflections history can be found here. It’ll only be available for the next 5 days. It’s the product of 5 years of writing and emotional turmoil – view a statement from Jake below, as well.
