In 2019, there’s hardly any set limits on what musicians are “allowed” to collaborate with others. Panic! At The Disco and Juice WRLD? Not an issue. Underoath and EDM artist Kayzo? Sure. Code Orange and Corey Taylor? Wynaut! If anything, collaborative efforts are something that the rock and metal world should be exploring more – not dividing themselves by obscure subgenre. That’s a story for another day, though.
Obviously, the same can’t be said for pop and hip-hop right now, so it’s really not a surprise that an astute Twitter user located what appears to be a likely collaboration between twenty one pilots and Halsey. While these two need very little introduction at this point, it’s intriguing nonetheless.
We don’t need to tell you that Halsey embodies the pop-punk warrior in all of us. When she’s not selling out huge venues as ome of the fastest rising pop stars in recent memory, Halsey can usually be found at other shows – like joining Panic! At The Disco in Mexico, or attending a The Story So Far show.
Wait, what? Yeah, that’s a thing that happened last night. As the pop-punk band is touring in support of their 4th album, Proper Dose, Halsey made an appearance – and it’s no surprise that Twitter predictably went into a frenzy. Not that “OMG my favorite musician listens to others genres of music” is necessarily news, but it does speak to a subsection of diversified music fans that a big-time pop musician is also a fan of pop-punk. We approve. Maybe Halsey will start that pop-punk side project?
This isn’t the first time the two have collaborated.
Panic! At The Disco and Halsey recently performed together at a huge event. In a spectacle you could only have witnessed if you were in Mexico City for the Corona Capital Festival a few days ago, the pair joined forces to perform “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”, a song that Halsey herself has said multiple times she grew up listening to. You know, like most of us.
The video of said spectacle, which you can watch below, took place on a star-studded lineup that also included Nine Inch Nails, MGMT, and many more. Despite how well known Halsey may be now, especially after her sophomore record dropped last year, there’s nothing quite like performing with one of your favorite musicians.
In a sea of generic note-by-note covers that exist on the internet, Airspoken from Southern California aren’t your typical boy band. They have created an outstanding dark/melodic spin on Justin Bieber‘s track “Love Yourself” off his latest album Purpose. Check out the video below:
