It’s been nearly a decade since Canadian post-hardcore icons Alexisonfire last released new music. In that time, the band has broken up in 2011, played a farewell tour the following year, and then reunited in 2015, continuing to play festival dates while repeatedly emphasizing that they were taking things slowly, with no immediate plans for new music. And with Dallas Green’s City and Colour project finding more success than ever, many fans have had little hope that new music would ever arrive.
It’s been almost 8 years since revered Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire has released a full-length album (2009’s underrated Old Crows/Young Cardinals), but it’s not like the band’s legacy has been forgotten. After going on a long hiatus, the band has been playing the occasional show, releasing albums on vinyl, and generally making sure that their importance to the music scene is remembered for a long time.
Even better is when the band does things like play a secret show with their long time cohorts in Moneen. This is a real thing that happened at Lee’s Palace in Toronto last night. Check out the full video below. It’s shows like this that make fans clamor for a full reunion with new music, though that’s fairly uncertain at this point.
Post-hardcore heroes Alexisonfire are back! But what exactly are they doing?
