Maynard James Keenan explains the Tool album delay: “The nature of Tool and their writing process is so drawn out”

It’s been 11 years since progressive metal titans Tool have released an album (2006’s 10,000 Days), and while the band’s fans have been crying out for new music for what seems like around 10 years or so, it’s become clear that Tool is a band that operates on their terms only. And given that vocalist Maynard James Keenan immerses himself in other projects (a book, a wine vineyard, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and probably 20 other things we don’t know about), it’s no surprise that the album has taken this long.

There’s light at the end of the tunnel, however. While a date for the album is still unknown at this point, Maynard hopped on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast to discuss the myriad projects he’s a part of, and also how Tool records while having members live so far away from each other. You can find the video below – famously reclusive, it gives great insight into how Maynard and Tool specifically operate.

Fun times today with my brother Maynard!
