Doom/Stoner metal isn’t quite my forte, but I decided to delve into it with the band known as Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs. Stylized as Pigsx7, the UK band released Viscerals in April, but had to cancel plans to play in the US at SXSW due to the virus. I was also curious on how the record’s release was affected during this time, so let’s delve into the interview:
The New Fury: What inspired the oddly-specific name of the band?
Adam Ian Sykes: Nonsense! After a stressful day in the studio, we were all burnt out and decided to come up with the worst band name we could. It stuck through the band’s early years!
New Fury: You had to cancel your dates at SXSW due to the virus. How excited were you to travel to the USA?
Adam: Aw, we were REALLY excited. It was tough having to cancel that one for sure. We love the States, have memories playing places like NY. Hope to get back there soon!
New Fury: How does it feel to release an album you can’t immediately support with a tour?
Adam: Strange, I guess is the word! We only got to play one new song off of Viscerals and wanted to tour the other new tracks.
New Fury: When it comes to Doom/Stoner metal, what bands would you consider the big dogs in the genre?
Adam: Definitely Sabbath, they were the forerunners without question. Another big inspiration for us is Sleep, and there’s other greats like Weedeater. Hard to narrow it down farther than that!
New Fury: What is your dream band to tour with?
Adam: I actually haven’t thought of that! It’s a given that we’d love to be with Sabbath for their final final tour, but another I’d love to tour with is Parliament Funkadelic, I’m relieved George Clinton is still alive!
